Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s ‘fake eyelashes’ jab causes chaos in House committee meeting

A House Oversight Committee hearing erupted into a war of words on Thursday when Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) exchanged slights as they discussed contempt proceedings for Attorney General Merrick Garland for blocking the release of audio tapes related to an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.

In this case, their furious exchange was prompted by Greene’s decision to personally insult Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX).

Earlier in the proceeding, Crockett had sought an answer from Chairman James Comer (R-KY) with a hypothetical question about rules violations that doubled as a thinly veiled shot at Greene: “I’m just curious, just to better understand your ruling: If someone on this committee then starts talking about somebody’s bleach blonde bad built butch body, that would not be engaging in personalities, correct?”

Later on, Greene got into a spat with Crockett when she launched an attack on the daughter of Judge Juan Merchan, who is overseeing former President Donald Trump’s hush money trial in New York.

“I would like to know if any of the Democrats on this committee are employing Judge Merchan’s daughter,” Greene quipped.

Crockett countered: “What does that have to do with Garland?”

Greene told her, “I don’t think you know what we’re here for. I think your fake eyelashes are messing up your reading.”

That insult prompted Ocasio-Cortez to demand Greene’s insult be stricken from the record.

“I do have a point of order, and I would like to move to take down Ms. Greene’s words. That is absolutely unacceptable. How dare you attack the physical appearance of another person… move her words down,” she said.

“Are your feelings hurt?” Greene taunted.

“Oh girl, baby girl!” Ocasio-Cortez shot back. “Don’t even play!””

AOC continued to tell off Greene: “That is absolutely unacceptable. How dare you attack the physical appearance of another person? Move her words down—”

That had AOC demanding Greene apologize.

But Greene, who permitted her comments to be deleted from the record made clear she wasn’t going to say sorry.

“I’m not apologizing,” she said. “Why don’t you debate me?”

“That’s self evident,” AOC told her

Greene then told her: “Yeah, you don’t have enough intelligence.”
